Sacred Buddhist stupa and pilgrimage site built in the 2nd century BC by King Saddatissa. Believed to enshrine relics of Lord Buddha. Part of the 16 most sacred places in Sri Lanka. Currently undergoing restoration after centuries of decline and war damage.
