Associated with the demon/deity 'Bhairava'. Legends include tales of animal and human sacrifices. The most known story is of Welikala Menike, a β€˜virgin’ sacrifice who was rescued by her lover Lunuwila Nilame. The demon was later revealed to be the King’s Chief Purohitha, ending the sacrificial rituals and prompting reforms in the kingdom.
