A rocky‑edged mountain approx 534 m (1,753 ft) above sea level. Located about 40 km northwest of Batticaloa in Eastern Province, in a thick jungle. It was the site of a large monastery in the Anuradhapura Era; stone inscriptions from King Kanishta Tissa have been found. In modern times used by LTTE as base during the civil war. Now part of Thoppigala Heritage Park with a war memorial and nature trails. (Daily Mirror)
