Ancient forest monastery built in the 3rd–2nd century BC, located on a rocky mountain near the Kumbukkan River, deep in the jungles of Kumana. Features drip-ledged caves, ruined stupas, and a rare detailed cave inscription about the Kataragama-kshathriya princes.

Said to be founded by the ten royal brothers of Kataragama, who participated in the Anuradhapura Bodhi tree ceremony. Some speculate a sacred Bodhi sapling was planted here. Inscriptions also mention Kings Mahasen and Jetta Tissa. Possibly a refuge for rebels in the 16th century.
