Buddangala Monastery
An ancient Buddhist meditation center established in the 2nd century BC by Princess Chitra, situated in dense jungle over 200 acres with ruins of temples, caves, ponds, and stupa. The monastery was abandoned for over a millennium and rediscovered in 1964. The site contains relics of Lord Buddha and disciples Sariputta and Moggallana, and features rock inscriptions and stone remains.
