Colombo Gangaramaya Temple
One of Colombo's most important and eclectic Buddhist temples, established in the late 19th century on the shores of Beira Lake. The temple complex is a fascinating architectural fusion of Sri Lankan, Thai, Indian, and Chinese Buddhist styles. Contains an extraordinary museum of Buddhist art and treasures, a sacred Bo tree, and a fleet of temple elephants. Hosts the Navam Perahera β one of Sri Lanka's largest Buddhist pageants β every February.

π Legends & Stories
The temple was established by the legendary Chief Sanghanayaka Ven. Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Thero and later expanded by his disciple Ven. Dickwella Pemasiri Thero. The Beira Lake surrounding the temple was once the site of Portuguese sea battles and is believed to house the spirits of ancient Sinhala warriors. The temple's collection includes relics said to be gifted by Buddhist monarchs across Asia.
