Said to have been used in the construction of the Taj Mahal; rediscovered by Ven. Wanawasi Rahula Thero; associated with Kings Devanampiyatissa and Dappula IV; contains ruins of ancient monasteries, stupas, and inscriptions. It is believed to have served as a meditation retreat for Buddhist monks for over a millennium.
