π Legends & Stories
The Knuckles are associated with the stories of the ancient Vedda people who lived in these forests for thousands of years. The highest peak, Gombaniya (1,906 m), is said to be the home of a forest deity who blesses those who enter with respect but punishes those who come with bad intentions. Hidden cave hermitages used by Buddhist monks for meditation are scattered throughout the range.
