Visitors can access the falls either from the base or the mouth, though slippery rocks and sudden water surges from upstream reservoirs pose risks. The name “Laxapana” has several interpretations: some believe it refers to the abundance of iron ore (“laksha”) found in the surrounding rocks; others say it means “stunning” (“lakshana”), or “100,000” (“lakshaya”), symbolizing grandeur. Locally, it is also known as “Veddahhiti Ella,” meaning “The Falls Where the Veddah Lived,” referring to the indigenous Veddah people believed to have lived near the falls in ancient times. This connection adds cultural and historical significance to the natural wonder.
