π Legends & Stories
The Minneriya Tank is believed to have been engineered by King Mahasena using a complex ancient canal system. Local tradition holds that the tank was sacred and that disturbing its waters would bring misfortune. The Gathering was largely unknown outside Sri Lanka until wildlife photographers documented it in the early 2000s, instantly making it one of Asia's greatest wildlife spectacles.
