Omunugala Cave Monastery
A 3rd-century BC cave monastery in Mahaoya jungle, once a major religious center patronized by royalty and commoners. Features include ruined stupas, ancient Bo and tamarind trees, drip-ledged caves with inscriptions, and a 37-meter long shrine cave. Also nearby is Nai Pena Ella (Waterfall of Cobra Hoods), tied to ancient water-guarding beliefs. The site is now largely overgrown and remote.
