π Legends & Stories
King Kasyapa built the fortress after killing his father and seizing the throne. Fearing his half-brother's revenge, he chose the impregnable rock as his palace. After Kasyapa's defeat and death, the site became a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century, when it was abandoned and forgotten until rediscovered by British archaeologists in the 19th century.
